Metal Braces
Not Removable — worn 24 hours a day, metal braces are fixed in place for brushing, eating, and drinking
Metal brackets are attached to the teeth and connected to wires that move teeth into proper positions
Mainstay of orthodontic treatment, sometimes better for complex cases
Office visits every 4-6 weeks to adjust the braces
Clear Braces
Not Removable — worn 24 hours a day, clear braces are fixed in place for brushing, eating, and drinking
Clear brackets are attached to the teeth and connected to wires that move teeth into proper positions
Less noticeable than metal braces, sometimes better for complex cases
Office visits every 4-6 weeks to adjust the braces
Invisalign®
Removable — worn 22 hours a day, Invisalign® aligners are removed for brushing, eating, and drinking
Attachments are bonded to some teeth and gripped by aligners that move teeth into proper positions
Less noticeable than metal or clear braces, smooth aligners are BPA-free
Office visits every 4-12 weeks, aligners changed every 1-2 weeks
